What import actually does

When that is exactly what you want

If the PDF is a design asset, a flyer, a poster, a one-page menu, a slide deck, then rebuilding it as a design is the point. Canva is a very good design tool and it will do more for that document than any PDF utility.

Use it deliberately for that. Start from the design, export the PDF at the end, and treat the PDF as output rather than as the file of record. Then the re-rendering costs you nothing because there was nothing to preserve.

When it will hurt you

Contracts, invoices, statements, filings, anything signed and anything with form fields. Re-rendering breaks the exact thing that makes those documents useful, and the damage is invisible until someone downstream notices a number in the wrong column.

Rotating a page, cropping a margin, deleting page four, getting a file under a size limit or stripping the author name are all jobs where importing into a design tool is more damage than the task deserves. Each has its own tool here and none of them re-render the document.
