The 97 KB trick for strict counters

This page counts 1,024 bytes to the kilobyte, so its 100 KB line sits at 102,400 bytes. A server counting flat thousands stops you at 100,000 - which is 97.66 KB here. Typing 97 KB dodges the dispute for a cut nobody can see on the page.

What squeezes to 100 KB

Short scans usually make it: one or two page images answer to a long quality dial. Plain-text exports sometimes land exactly. Long mixed documents with photos on every page mostly stop above the line - smaller and verified, but above it. Our pilot of 19 runs shows the same split: gentle text targets land, heavy files settle at their floor.

Forms that stop at 100 KB

One-page resumes for portals that cap every attachment alike. Strict application forms where the cap has not moved in a decade. Thumbnail-size exports you mail instead of linking. In each case the ritual is the same: squeeze, read the verdict, send.

When the field names a nearby number, the siblings are 50 KB below and 150 KB above. When the file carries pages nobody will read, Delete PDF pages removes them before you squeeze.

Above 100 KB? Three ways out

Read the verdict first: final size, distance to target, winning method - that name tells you what to attack, and Size breakdown names the exact pages. Then pick an exit: split the document with Split PDF, accept 150 KB if the cap bends, or drop dead pages and run again. At 100 KB a ten-page file averages 10 KB per page - past that density, shrink the page count before chasing bytes. The reasoning sits under If the result lands above your target.

100 KB: five answers

Can any PDF reach 100 KB?
No. Text files and short scans usually can; long photo-heavy documents have a floor no verified pass goes under. The verdict line tells you which kind yours is.
Do I need Highest for 100 KB?
No - the level buttons set the target to a share of the uploaded file, so they cannot squeeze harder at the same 100 KB ceiling. Stay on the 100 KB number; photos may smooth visibly, and if quality is sacred, read Compress PDF without losing quality first.
Is text still selectable after a 100 KB squeeze?
Yes. Every candidate is opened again and counted against the source; anything missing over 2% of its characters is not offered for download.
My file is already under 100 KB - now what?
Nothing: you already fit, and squeezing further only risks quality for no reason. Compress again only if a stricter cap shows up.
Why does the second run barely move the number?
Because the first run already took everything loose. The raster reserve either fails the text check or shaves bytes - either way, the first verified result stands.
