PDFescape fills and annotates forms in the browser, which pdfviz cannot do at all. Its free online editor is genuinely free and needs no install. pdfviz does size, pages, images, passwords, stamps and redaction, and verifies each result. If the job is a form, PDFescape is the right tab to open, not this one.
Forms are the reason to use PDFescape
PDFescape describes itself as the original online free PDF editor and form filler, and that second half is the part that matters. It types into form fields, adds text boxes, ticks boxes, draws and annotates, all in a browser. pdfviz has no form tool and no field handling.
pdfviz can put permanent text on a page with the stamp tool, but that is stamping, not filling. A stamped word sits on the page; a filled field belongs to the form and can be read back by whoever receives it. Do not confuse the two on anything official.
What the free tier allows
PDFescape says the online editor is free forever with no watermark, and lists convert, compress, merge, page numbers, and text and image editing as Premium. The published online caps are 10 MB per file, 10 stored files and 7 days of history on Free, against 40 MB per file, 100 stored files and 30 days on Premium, checked 10 September 2026.
What it still does not publish is a page limit for the free editor. So treat the page ceiling as unknown until you meet it. Open a long document early rather than at the deadline, and check the editor's own message when it refuses. This page will not print a page limit it could not verify from PDFescape's own site.
What pdfviz does instead
The pdfviz set is 41 file-handling tools with a receipt. Page order, rotation and cropping, size targets, passwords, redaction and metadata stripping, each checked against its input before the download appears.
None of it needs an account and none of it uploads anything. That is a narrower promise than PDFescape makes, and it is the reason the checks are possible at all: the file and the verification live in the same tab.
Annotation against redaction
PDFescape can draw a black box over a name. That box is a drawing sitting above the text, and the text underneath survives. Anyone can select it, copy it or pull it out with a command-line tool. This is the single most common way a redaction fails.
The pdfviz redaction tool destroys the marked content instead. It rebuilds the affected pages, deletes the document Names, Outlines, Metadata, AcroForm, OpenAction and additional-actions entries, and then checks the output for the text it was told to remove.
