Choosing TIFF color mode and resolution

TIFF is a container format, not one fixed recipe. A records management system may require color, grayscale or one-bit black and white; a specific DPI such as 200 or 300; and a named compression method. This tool writes color or 8-bit grayscale pages with lossless PackBits compression. It does not produce Group 4 fax output or one-bit black-and-white images. Check the specification of the receiving system before converting a large document.

Resolution controls both detail and file size. Moving from 150 to 300 DPI quadruples the pixels per page by arithmetic, so the file grows quickly at higher settings. Grayscale stores one sample per pixel instead of three, so it is the practical choice when color carries no meaningful information. When you need to convert PDF to TIFF

TIFF fits records management, archival systems and document-intensive workflows. Here are common situations where a browser-based PDF to TIFF converter is the right tool:

Choose color when the page uses meaningful color. Grayscale is smaller and suits black-and-white records, but it is not a one-bit Group 4 fax TIFF. For resolution, use 150 DPI for screen viewing, 200 DPI if the receiving specification asks for it, or 300 DPI when small print needs more detail. Always check the receiving system specification.
Can I export a page range to TIFF?
Yes. Choose the Choose pages option and enter single pages or ranges, such as 1, 3-5. They stay in PDF page order inside the TIFF.
Will the TIFF text be selectable?
No. TIFF stores page pixels, not text. The source PDF is not changed and keeps its text layer. If you need selectable text, try PDF to Markdown.
What compression does the TIFF use?
The TIFF uses lossless PackBits compression. It does not use lossy JPEG compression or Group 4 black-and-white fax compression. This keeps every pixel exactly as rendered.
What does the output check cover?
It reopens every TIFF page, decodes its stored pixels and checks the page count, width and height. A failed output is not offered for download.
Is there an output limit?
Yes. The generated TIFF is capped at 256 MB. If your document would exceed that, choose fewer pages, grayscale, or a lower resolution to stay within the cap. A single page is also capped at 40 million pixels; the tool tells you to choose a lower resolution instead.
